Belema Owen Koko is a Senior Associate in the Litigation/Arbitration and Corporate/Commercial Law Practice Groups of the Firm.

She has a decade of experience in litigation garnered prior to and in the course of working at the Firm. She represents and advises clients, including multinationals, on complex disputes covering diverse subjects such as energy and natural resources, corporate governance, shareholders’ minority protection, contracts, real estate, etc.

Notable achievements

• Represented a multinational in a property claim of circa N900,000,000.00 (Nine Hundred Million Naira) and obtained a judgment in favour of the multinational.
• Representing a multinational in a compensation claim of N1,000,000,000.00 (One Billion Naira) on alleged non-compliance with purported oil and gas industry trade practice.
• Represented and successfully obtained a dismissal of a N20,000,000,000 (Twenty Billion Naira) compensation claim against Nigeria LNG Limited in respect of its Train-7 project.
• Represented a company in a suit against the Port Harcourt Chamber of Commerce, Industry, Mines and Agriculture, on issues bordering on governance and contempt of court, and achieved an out-of-court settlement for the parties.
• Represented a client in a suit against an airline, for loss of luggage (without special declaration of value of luggage and payment of supplementary sum) and obtained an award of damages/compensation above Special Drawing Rights.
• Represented and obtained a favourable decision for a company in a suit bordering among other issues, on the rights of minority shareholders.
• Representing a financial institution in a claim of circa $140,000,000.00 (One Hundred and Forty Thousand Dollars) and N604,000,000.00 (Six Hundred and Four Million Naira), for alleged wrongful reversal of credits and closure of accounts.
• Representing a company in the recovery of an insurance claim of circa USD$618,000.00 (Six Hundred and Eighteen Thousand Dollars).
